With each family song I’ve written, the circumstances have been unique, which of course is reflected in the song. The first Wedding Song I wrote for my niece, during a time when my marriage… of the time, was heading into a downward spiral. So, one might think it would be particularly poignant. Au contraire, it was an upbeat and whimsical work, which reflected the nature of the two young lovers and their story. Of course, it’s always about the story: how they met - how they interacted - how their relationship progressed - what was said & done… or left unsaid & not done - the qualities of their characters - and the path they’re headed on - and how they might traverse the journey!
Having worked with Andy Thompson once before, and discovered his talented artistry, he was my go to for production. I’m a creator, and acquire production assistance, which adds to the time and overall cost of getting a song into the airwaves. With the assistance of friends, and one quick recording session, the song pulled together… which of course is a key word in any relationship song, and in this song, a key theme in the chorus lyric.
Typically what I’ve done to create the lyrics (their story), is begin with a personal talk and find out what the couple wishes to share. If this isn’t possible, then I use close family members as reference points, to ascertain the key points needed. In the song, “Sleep Walkin’” for a daughter, I really didn’t know much about “the Boy”, due to circumstances, and so learned much about him from my daughter’s close girlfriend and the young man’s loving mother. With Matt Holtby’s engaging vocals and production assistance, and great fun in the process of trying to imitate “Love you, I do”, in a Yoda (Star Wars) style. “Sleepwalkin’ “, so titled because as a child, in his sleep he had walked off the dock into the lake! The couple chose to use the song in the wedding service, as they walked back down the aisle, newly married!
My 3rd Wedding Song for my youngest daughter and her beloved, took some time, due to a significant world event. By the time it was completed, they had 2 children! Their story was so sweet, and the song evolved around a significant moment… their 2nd date! Many thanks to all the musicians who contributed to this memorable song.

“Having a personalized song written, created and produced by my Aunt Karen for our wedding was one of the most heartfelt and unforgettable gifts we received. She captured our love story so beautifully - every lyric felt personal, every note full of meaning. The song brought so much joy, and still makes me smile almost 10 years later! It added such a special, emotional moment to our day. It’s not just a song - it’s a memory we’ll cherish for the rest of our lives. We’re so grateful for her talent, love and the time she put into creating something so uniquely us.”
